Hello friends! Today, we are going to explore a very unique story, one that many of you might have heard during your childhood. However, if you haven’t come across this story before, don’t worry—here’s your chance to read and learn. Let’s dive into the story.
In a small village, there lived an elderly man with his son. The two of them resided in a beautiful little hut deep within a forest. They also had a horse, and every day, the father and son would ride the horse to go hunting. They would venture into the forest, hunt various animals and birds, and bring them back to cook and eat. At night, they would even gather fruits and nuts from the nearby woods to fill their stomachs. This was their way of life for many years.
As time passed, the father grew ill and could no longer go hunting. His son had to take over, hunting smaller birds and animals to bring home for their meals. One day, while hunting far away in the forest, the son spotted a deer. Excited by the thought of bringing it home and eating it for several days, he immediately gave chase. However, the deer fled quickly, and the horse, tired from the long walk, couldn’t keep up. Not knowing what else to do, the son tied the horse to a tree and continued the pursuit on foot. Unfortunately, the deer had already disappeared deep into the forest.
Feeling disappointed, the young man began heading back when he suddenly encountered a tiger. Terrified, he ran for his life as the tiger chased after him. He ran until he could no longer continue and climbed up a tree for safety. As he ascended, he noticed a bear sitting on one of the branches, which only added to his fear. He was now stuck, unable to go up or down, trapped between a tiger below and a bear above.
To his surprise, the bear spoke to him, saying, “Don’t be afraid. Come up here; I won’t harm you.” The son cautiously climbed up and sat next to the bear. Time passed, and the tiger below showed no signs of leaving. As night fell, the young man grew tired and started to doze off. Seeing this, the bear told him, “If you fall asleep, you might slip and fall. Rest your head on my lap; I’ll hold you so you don’t fall.” Relieved, the son lay his head on the bear’s lap and fell asleep.
Down below, the tiger, noticing this, called out to the bear: “Humans are ungrateful creatures. Throw him down, and I’ll eat him. After that, I’ll leave, and you can live in peace. I won’t harm you.” But the bear replied, “He trusted me and came to me for help. I cannot betray him.” The tiger tried to convince the bear, but it refused.
After some time, the young man woke up, and the bear asked him to keep watch while it took a nap. A little later, the tiger tried to persuade the man, saying, “If you throw the bear down, I’ll eat it and let you go free. This way, you can escape safely.” The man, confused and fearful, thought about it and decided to push the bear down.
As the bear fell, it grabbed onto a nearby branch, saving itself from the fall. Looking up, the tiger mocked the bear, “See? I told you humans are ungrateful. He tried to betray you.” The bear, however, refused to retaliate, saying, “Just because he made a mistake, I won’t do the same. He trusted me, and I will honor that trust.”
Finally, the tiger left the area, and the bear forgave the young man, telling him to leave the forest and never return. Ashamed of what he had done, the son went back to his horse. But the horse, disappointed, said, “I carried you all this way, and this is how you repay me? I won’t be with you any longer,” and it ran off. The son walked back home and told his father everything that had happened, deeply regretting his actions.
His father, though disappointed, said, “You have realized your mistake, and for that, I forgive you.” However, the son could not find peace. He continued to feel remorse for his actions, reflecting on his mistake every single day.
