Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a woodcutter who lived alone. With no family to care for, he didn’t feel the pressure to make a lot of money. Instead, he lived a simple life, earning just enough to meet his basic needs.
Each day, the woodcutter would chop wood in the nearby forest and sell it in the neighboring village. That’s when the mischievous monkey saw its chance. It climbed onto the tree and, without realizing its own tail was stuck between the split wood, began pulling at the wedge. After several attempts, the monkey finally succeeded in removing the wedge, but the moment the wedge was out, the tree snapped shut, trapping the monkey’s tail inside.
The monkey screamed in pain, jumping around in a panic. The loud cries reached the woodcutter, who rushed back to see what had happened. By the time he arrived, the monkey had managed to free itself but had lost its tail in the process. Sitting on a nearby tree branch, the monkey glanced back, only to realize its tail was gone. Overcome with sorrow, the monkey sat there weeping.
Seeing this, the woodcutter sternly said, “Let this be a warning. Today, you lost your tail. If you mess with me again, it might be your head next time. Be careful!”
From that day on, the monkey never came near the woodcutter again.
